First They Changed My Name

This blog is in response to a story First They Changed My Name by Caffilene Allen. A persons' name defines who a person is. If a person changes their name they change a part of themselves. As with this story this girl went to public school for the first time and was made to change her name which changed her identity to herself and her family. Something as simple as a different name changed this girls life forever. However I believe embracing one's name creates a stronger person, your name is just as important as your life. Name changes also can reflect different stages in your life, such as nicknames which is not a formal change of name but it is close enough. A nickname also defines who you are because it is given based on who you are, what you do, how you look, and what you stand for. Without a name we all would just be the same. Your name sets you apart from others, even though some of us may have the same name. I wouldn't change my name for nothing it's who I am; it's who I'll always be.
